St. Francis Center Partners with Denver Activist Women's Group for “DAWG Days of Summer”

A volunteer collaboration on August 18 brings dozens of Denver activists on-site to support the hundreds of neighbors served by SFC's Day Center each day
DENVER, CO, AUGUST 18, 2026: St. Francis Center (SFC), a Denver nonprofit that serves hundreds of people experiencing homelessness every day, will host DAWG Days of Summer on Tuesday, August 18, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., in partnership with the Denver Activist Women's Group (DAWG). The volunteer collaboration brings roughly 30 activists on-site to help prepare the Day Center's spaces and resources for the guests it welcomes daily, and marks a highlight of DAWG's dedicated month of volunteering each August.
Every day, the St. Francis Center Day Center serves between 300 and 500 individuals experiencing homelessness, providing hot showers, hygiene products, clean clothing and shoes, mail service, phones and charging stations, and much more. Beyond meeting immediate needs, SFC connects guests with wellness professionals, resource navigation, family reunification services, same-day EBT card replacements and housing assessments. In 2025, the Center served an average of 496 different guests each day and 11,548 different individuals over the course of the year — support that helped 595 people transition into permanent, supportive housing and led to 489 full-time job placements.

"Their willingness to roll up their sleeves in support of our mission; helping people meet their basic needs and transition out of homelessness — sends a powerful message that our unhoused neighbors deserve dignity, compassion, and a community that cares. The work they'll be doing, from sorting clothing and hygiene items to organizing our Clothing Room, folding towels, and preparing our spaces for service delivery, may seem simple, but these behind-the-scenes tasks are essential to everything we do."
The collaboration reflects DAWG's rapid rise as one of Denver's most active grassroots organizations. Founded in January 2025 after Rayna Kingston posted on Instagram asking whether other Denver women wanted to connect and received hundreds of responses. DAWG has since grown to more than 4,000 members and a following of 11,000+. In under two years, the group has hosted 20 or more events and collaborated with 20+ organizations across the metro area, activating 80 to 100 women at each monthly gathering around its three focus areas: community health, immigration and immigrants' rights and women's rights.
Through an existing relationship, Kingston identified St. Francis Center as a mission-aligned partner for August, DAWG's dedicated month of volunteering, and will bring her network of activists on-site while promoting the event across her platforms to encourage broader, ongoing involvement with SFC. The result is a behind-the-scenes look at how a busy Day Center runs and a direct, meaningful contribution to the neighbors it serves. Community members who can't attend can still support the Day Center's everyday needs; SFC is currently seeking donations of towels of all sizes, along with other essential items.

The Denver Activist Women's Group (DAWG) is a grassroots organization created by women, for women — a collective of progressively minded womxn who believe in investing their time and energy in the well-being of their local communities. Founded by Rayna Kingston in January 2025, DAWG began with a single Instagram post and has grown into a movement of thousands showing up for their community through service, activism, and organized effort.
